Biden directed that $350 million allocated through the Foreign Assistance Act
United States President Joe Biden instructed the U.S. State Department to release $350 million in military aid to Ukraine on Friday as it struggles to repulse a Russian invasion.
In a memorandum to Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Biden directed that $350 million allocated through the Foreign Assistance Act be designated for Ukraine’s defense.
The Biden administration also wants Congress to provide $ 6.4 billion to pay for an initial US response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, with much of it for military and humanitarian assistance in the region, AP reported.
The U.S. and its European allies have pledged additional military equipment to Ukraine facing Russian aggression.
Poland has shipped a convoy with ammunition to Ukraine, according to the country’s Minister of Defense Mariusz Błaszczak. This was the first publicly acknowledged shipment of military aid to Ukraine since the Russian invasion began.
