Wray was nominated by former President Trump in 2017 and has 6 years left in his term
President Joe Biden intends to keep FBI Director Christopher Wray in his post, senior administration officials have said. Wray has six years left in his current term.
Wray has led the FBI since 2017, when then-President Donald Trump named him to succeed James Comey. FBI directors are appointed for a 10-year terms but can be removed by the president.
White House press secretary Jen Psaki did not answer on when asked if Biden had confidence in Wray but replied “I’ll circle back if there’s more to convey.”
The FBI is leading the investigation into the January 6 attack on the Capitol, and has arrested dozens of alleged rioters across the country in the weeks since the assault. Wray said last week the spate of arrests “should serve as a very stern warning to anybody else who might be inclined to try to engage in that activity.”
