Blinken discusses Ukraine crisis with Chinese foreign minister

China urged that “the Ukraine crisis can only be solved through dialogue and negotiations”

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to discuss the Ukraine situation

Blinken spoke about “Moscow’s premeditated, unprovoked, and unjustified war against Ukraine,” the official statemnet said.

“The Secretary noted the world is watching to see which nations stand up for the basic principles of freedom, self-determination and sovereignty,” spokesperson Ned Price said in a statement. He underscored that “the world is acting in unison to repudiate and respond to the Russian aggression, ensuring that Moscow will pay a high price.”

Wang Yi said that the current situation in Ukraine is not something China wants to see. “We hope that the war will stop as soon as possible, the situation on the ground will be eased, the life and property safety of civilians will be effectively guaranteed, and a large-scale humanitarian crisis will be prevented” Yi said according ti China’s foreign ministry.

Wang Yi said that “the Ukraine crisis can only be solved through dialogue and negotiations”, adding that Beijing is against any moves that fan the flame, add fuel to the flame and escalate the tensions rather than promote a diplomatic solution. Yi urged for efforts to solve the crisis and also maintain long-term peace and stability in the region.

Chinese foreign minister  encouraged the United States, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), and the European Union to also engage in dialogue with Russia and “pay attention to the negative impact of NATO’s continuous eastward expansion on Russia’s security, and seek to build a balanced, effective and sustainable European security mechanism.”
