President Trump blocked from posting to Facebook, Instagram ‘indefinitely,’ at least for next two weeks
President Trump is banned from posting on his Facebook and Instagram accounts indefinitely and for at least the next two weeks until the transition of power to President-elect Joe Biden is complete, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg wrote in a post.
Mark Zuckerberg said that the risks of his using the service during this period “are simply too great.” The company said it removed statements from Mr. Trump because they thought its effect would “provoke further violence” adding to the Capitol Hill riots. “The current context is now fundamentally different, involving use of our platform to incite violent insurrection against a democratically elected government,” Zuckerberg wrote.
The tech giant also said that over the last several years, they often removed content posted by President Trump or labeled his posts when they violate our policies.” We did this because we believe that the public has a right to the broadest possible access to political speech, even controversial speech.”
On Wednesday evening, Twitter locked Trump’s account in response to three tweets that violated its policies. Once Trump removed those tweets, the 12 hour lockout period began. “Future violations of the Twitter Rules… will result in permanent suspension of the @realDonaldTrump account,” said Twitter’s policy account.
